Montessori is an educational philosophy developed more than 100 years ago by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator, based on her scientific observations of how children learn and grow.
At its core, Montessori emphasizes respecting each child’s individuality, giving children freedom within limits to build independence, inner discipline, and a natural love of learning.
From ages 0–6, children are described as having an “absorbent mind”. This is a “sensitive period” when a child is especially sensitive to sensory input, language, movement, order, and social skills. Montessori is particularly important in the preschool years because it provides:
Foundation: Support every child’s natural learning process by honoring their developmental needs and interests, guided by the “Sensitive Periods” of growth.
Prepared Environment: Classrooms are carefully organized, with materials designed across key areas (Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, Culture), allowing children to freely choose activities that meet their developmental needs.
The Guide (Teacher): Teachers act as observers and guides – opening pathways and accompanying children, while giving them opportunities to experience and discover on their own.
Holistic Development: Montessori fosters a balanced and holistic human capability that nurtures spiritual awareness, ethical decision-making, emotional intelligence, executive functioning, social responsibility, and a healthy lifestyle.
At beU – Là Em, Montessori is applied as a foundation:
Allowing children to truly be themselves, growing at their own natural pace.
Learning in freedom, guided structure, safety, and love.
Becoming confident, compassionate, and happy individuals from within.
